Since Naruto is a story about ninjas, there will be fighting. Now, some people like, even love the violence, but the majority of people don’t know how to do it properly. This thread will show you how it’s done.
First, I’ll hit upon the issues of godmodding and metagaming.
Godmodding is like taking over the other person’s character by posting what you want them to do in response to something you do. Essentially, it means you are acting as a god, which you are not allowed to do. If you plan on taking control of another person’s character, you must have their permission.
For an example of proper control over another character you can view Chiyo and Sakura’s fight against Sasori. Chiyo attaches her chakra strings to Sakura with Sakura’s knowledge and permission so they could have her strength and Chiyo’s skill to fight Sasori. This can only happen with permission.
Here’s an example of going about it the wrong way: Sasuke smirked as Ino made eye contact with him, throwing her into his genjutsu. While she was caught in his genjutsu, he readied his strongest fire jutsu and blasted her. She died since she couldn’t dodge it.
This example doesn’t give Ino the chance to react to being put under a genjutsu. Instead, Sasuke attacks her without letting her attempt to break the genjutsu.
Your character is not immortal and, remember, there will always be someone better than you. Your character is not as good as you’d like to think he is. You may think you can single handedly defeat the Akatsuki, but you never will. You have to be realistic!
Every time you use a jutsu you will lose chakra. How much you lose depends on the rank and size of the technique. If you use three A-Rank jutsu in one fight, you’re probably almost out of chakra. Jinchuriki are an exception. They have larger chakra reserves than a normal ninja because of their demons, which are essentially just large masses of concentrated chakra. Remember to add the chakra loss to you rping.
On that note, let’s move to autoing. Autoing is automatically hitting your opponent without giving them the chance to dodge. This is against the rules. When you start to attack is when your post should end. Then, the other character has the chance to either get hit or dodge. Now, remember that your character can’t dodge all the time. Something is going to hit them.
Metagaming. Metagaming is like saying that you know exactly what is going to happen. It’s abusing your out of character knowledge. Even the Sharingan can’t tell you exactly what is going to happen.
Be honest and detailed when you roleplay. Use logic and think before you make a move.
Fighting:
Person 1
Prepare
Attack
Person 2
Defend
Prepare
Attack
That is how fighting should be set up here. The first person prepares for the attack and starts to use it. Their post ends there. The second person responds to the attack, prepares for their attack, and then starts to use it. This is how the process will continue throughout each turn.
Preparing- This is when you gather chakra, make hand signs, hide, etc., in preparation for your attack.
Attack- This is when you begin to use your attack by charging at the opponent or throwing kunai, etc. Your post ends with this. You don’t have to attack every turn.
Defend- This is when you respond to your opponent’s attack by either using a barrier jutsu, dodging, or getting hit.
Genjutsu:
Genjutsu is a special form of fighting that utilizes illusions. Genjutsu are a fine line between roleplaying and godmodding, so use them with utmost caution. If you activate a genjutsu, your turn ends. Be sure to explain the genjutsu’s effects but also what is happening in the world outside of the genjutsu. If you want to use a regular attack, you must first break the genjutsu so your opponent can respond.
You can break genjutsu by having the caster release them, but disrupting your own chakra, or by having another ninja touch you.
